The Hope College men's soccer team has control of its postseason destiny with one week remaining in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season.
The Flying Dutchmen moved into sole possession of fourth place in the standings with a 2-0 win at Albion on Saturday.
The top four teams advance to next month's MIAA Tournament. There are two league matches left.
Senior David Porte of Mattawan, Michigan (Mattawan HS), scored two second-half goals for Hope against Albion. He leads the Flying Dutchmen with a career-high seven goals.
Porte's goals came within a span of 1 minute, 58 seconds in the 67th and 69th minutes.
The first goal was unassisted. The assist on the second goal belonged to freshman Steve Binnig of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (North Allegheny HS).
Hope needed only one save from senior goalie Sam Barthel of Waukesha, Wisconsin (Waukesha HS), for its third shutout of the season.
The Flying Dutchmen are now 7-9-1 overall and 4-7-1 in MIAA play. They lead fifth-place Trine by one point and sixth-place Adrian and Olivet by three points.
Albion fell to 5-11-1 overall and 3-9 in league matches.
Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Trine. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
