Hope Men's Soccer Edges Trine On Second-Half Goal

David Porte's second-half goal lifted the Hope College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win against visiting Trine on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The senior from Mattawan, Michigan (Mattawan HS), came through five minutes into the second half of the MIAA match. It was his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Freshman Isaac Braak of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven), recorded his first collegiate assist on the play.

The Flying Dutchmen raised their record to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in MIAA play. Hope is in a three-way tie for fifth place.

Trine (5-6-1, 2-4) was limited to three shots for the game. The Thunder did not put force sophomore goalie Joseph Fifer of Caledonia, Michigan (Caledonia HS) to make a save.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Olivet. It is the final game of the first half of the MIAA schedule.
