Britons persevere for MIAA win

ALBION, Mich. – Albion coach Jerry Block said playing against a direct team like Olivet is difficult, but the Britons persevered in earning a 3-0 victory over their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival.

"It was tough to get in rhythm," Block said. "We stuck to the game plan and took chances when we needed to."

While Joey Zaremski and Kyle Bourlier tallied their first collegiate goals and Evan Schweizer struck for his team-leading fifth goal of the season, Block tabbed first-year midfielder Erik Vanfossen as the Man of the Match.

"Erik won head balls that propelled us to play out there," Block said.

Shawn Roberts assisted on two of the Briton goals. Jason Inglis also picked up an assist.

Albion goalkeeper Justin Kraft needed to make three saves to complete his second shutout of the season.

Albion, winners of its last two to improve to 2-1 against its MIAA rivals and 4-3-1 overall, has a Saturday home date with Trine University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.
