Hope Men's Soccer Scores Late, Beats Illinois Wesleyan

Freshman Christian Dault of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), made his first goal for the Hope College men's soccer team one to remember. The midfielder netted the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium that gave the Flying Dutchmen second place in the Bergsma Memorial Tournament.

Dault snapped a 1-1 tie with 7 minutes, 51 second remaining in front of a Van Andel Soccer Stadium crowd of 675.

Freshmen Jared Wondergem of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS), pulled Hope even with Illinois Wesleyan (0-2-1) after the Titans struck 4:10 into the game.

Wondergem's second goal of the season — and second in as many games — came off a deflection six minutes following Illinois Wesleyan's goal.

Senior goalie Sam Barthel of Waukesha, Wisconsin (Waukesha HS), earned the win after making two saves.

St. Scholastica, Minnesota won the tournament after defeating Marian, Indiana 5-0 on Saturday.

Hope returns to action next weekend with matches at North Central, Illinois on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. Central and at Aurora, Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. Central.
