Second-seeded Hope College notched a 23-14 victory over No. 1 seeded Albion College in the championship contest of the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament on Saturday, May 6.

The Flying Dutchmen opened the championship contest by scoring the first four goals.  Sam Puzevic put the Brits on the board at the 6:29 mark.  Hope's Luke Wierengo was next to score with 2:16 remaining, while Albion's Jace Conley and Eddie Symons reduced the scoring deficit to 5-3 at the end of the first period.  Wierengo scored the first goal of the second quarter just 18 seconds in.  The Brits went on a scoring spurt over the next 3:28 to gain their first lead of the game (7-6).  The teams exchanged goals before another four-point run by Hope closed out the half with the Flying Dutchmen leading 12-8.

The second half started with both squads scoring three goals each in just under six minutes (15-11).  Hope's Sam Bowen broke the back-and-forth pattern with a goal at the 8:34 mark, which was answered by Albion's Ethan Rottell just 25 seconds later.  Three goals in a row gave the Flying Dutchmen a 19-12 lead with 3:10 remaining in the third stanza.  Marcus Haynie was next to score for the Brits at 1:11 and Hope's Michael Mann ended the third period with a goal at the four-second mark.  In a low-scoring fourth period, Hope tallied three goals before Albion's Eddie Symons closed out the contest with the final goal.

Hope's Sam Bowen scored a game-best six goals while Alex Goodall and Michael Mann each totaled four.  Luke Wierengo had a team high of eight ground balls.

Albion's Jack Gogonis made a game-best 16 saves, while Eddie Symons totaled a game high of 19 ground balls.

The Flying Dutchmen receive the automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament.  The NCAA selection show is slated for 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.
