Recent Calvin University graduate Hunter Stearns has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Stearns has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team in men's lacrosse. A defender, Stearns is from Hudsonville, Michigan. He is a graduate of Hudsonville High School.

Stearns is receiving CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in the Division III at-large division which includes a wealth of sports including swimming and diving, lacrosse, ice hockey, wrestling, golf and tennis.

Stearns is the first CoSIDA Academic All-American in the history of the Calvin men's lacrosse program.

A two-year captain and a three-year starter on defense, Stearns was named to the 2021 All-MIAA First Team and to the 2022 All-MIAA Second Team. Stearns finished his Calvin career ranked sixth on the Calvin career list in caused turnovers (50).

A 4.0 student in the classroom, Stearns graduated from Calvin last month with a double major of Spanish and biochemistry. As a Calvin student, he was named the 2021 Dr. Roger A. and Bradley J. Hoekstra Award recipient which honors a Calvin student with a future in Christian excellence in medicine. As a student, he was also named the recipient of the Calvin Analytical Chemistry Student of the Year Award. Stearns plans a career in the medical field and will attend the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, for medical school next fall.

"I can honestly speak for our entire men's lacrosse program when I say that we are thrilled for Hunter to receive this honor," said Calvin head men's lacrosse coach Dave Hoger. "He has been a tremendous representative of Calvin University as a student and as an athlete. I have no doubt he will continue to represent Calvin with distinction in the years ahead with his future endeavors."

Stearns is the third individual from Calvin to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America honors during the 2021-22 academic year, joining Anna Schriemer (women's volleyball) and Gabby Timmer (women's basketball) to be so honored this year.

Calvin has now produced 147 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans all-time which ranks eighth on the all-time NCAA III list.
