Around the MIAA

Adrian (1-3, 0-0)

The Bulldogs picked up their first win in the Brett Wetzel coaching era on Saturday with a 16-7 win at Franciscan, snapping a 10-game road losing streak dating back to 2017…Adrian avenges a 16-9 loss to the Barons at home last season…Adrian's had 23 caused turnovers which were the most in team history since the school record of 25 set at Mount St. Joseph on March 6, 2011…The 58 ground balls at Franciscan were third-most in Bulldogs history and the most since 68 in the 2019 season opener at Wabash…freshman Peyton Gasche ties Josh Maluta's AC single-game assists record of seven, set at Otterbein University, April 13, 2011…Freshman Christian Aurand led the team with nine ground balls and led all defensemen with eight caused turnovers—the latter tying a school record…Freshman Grant Nesbitt tallied a career-best four goals while tying a career high in points, and also had four ground balls, versus the Barons…Aurand joins Max Leventis (Feb. 26) as the only Bulldogs named to the USILA National Team of the Week, tying Hope College for the most selections in the MIAA.


Albion (1-3, 0-0)

Alec Palmer scored a career-high five goals and Jace Conleyh chipped in with four goals and an assist in Albion’s first victory of the season, a 13-9 decision over the College of Wooster…Conley and Palmer each produced seven goals and two assists in two contests last week…Josh Luketic took over as goalkeeper last week and posted a .561 save percentage (23 saves on 41 shots).

Alma (2-4, 0-0)

The Scots started their week on the road Thursday at Ohio Wesleyan University. Alma loss, 24-7, with junior attacker Connor Alley (Powell, Ohio) scored a hat trick while midfielders Jared Nycz (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Trevor Bailey (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) each added two scores. The then played host to North Central College (Ill.) on Saturday and dropped a 13-8 contest. Nycz had a team-high four points pushing the senior's program-leading career total to 250.

Hope (2-1, 0-0)

The Hope College men’s lacrosse team worked together to handle an opponent’s relentless badgering. The Flying Dutchmen won, 11-7, at Oberlin on Saturday in non-league play. Freshman Jack Radzville (Howell, Mich.) finished with a team-high three goals. The Flying Dutchmen received two goals apiece from juniors Nathaniel Hentschel (Spring Lake, Mich.) and Rocco Mularoni (Hartland, Mich.).


Kalamazoo (3-0, 0-0)

The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team won both of its games this week over Concordia Chicago (16-9) and Carroll (21-4) to improve to 3-0 on the season. In the win over Concordia Chicago, Jack Smith set a new school record with seven assists. As a team, Kalamazoo broke school records for goals (21), shots (58), assists (13), and face-offs won (20). Jack Loveland led the way on the offensive end with six total goals on the weekend. Brett Fitzgerald added five goals in Kalamazoo's two wins. Nate Silverman improved to 3-0 in goal this season while making 13 saves. Kalamazoo will return to play on Friday, March 15 for its home opener against Dubuque at 6 p.m.


Olivet (0-0, 0-0)

The Olivet College men's lacrosse team will begin the 2019 campaign Thursday, March 14 against Mount St. Joseph.


Trine (2-0, 0-0)

Trine started the season 2-0 with wins against Southwestern (Texas) and Dallas (Texas)...Justin Gearig led the team in scoring with eight goals and four assists for 12 points...had two "man-up" goals and one "man-down" goal...took 13 shots and had a 61.5 shot percentage.
