The Hope College men's lacrosse team was one of 11 teams to receive the National Intercollegiate Lacrosse Officials Association Jim "Ace" Adams award for the 2017 season.

The Jim "Ace" Adams Award for Sportsmanship is administered through each region/district and may be given to an institution serviced by the NILOA within the region/district. The recipient institution will be judged on behavior of coaches, players, fans, and facilities available to officials and administration of cooperation with officiating crews.

"We are very pleased to be recognized for our sportsmanship and the support we get from our administration, staff, sports information direction, athletic department, fans, parents, and alumni," Hope head coach Michael Schanhals said. "On behalf of our program, we would like to thank NILOA for recognizing and honoring our school. Ace Adams is the exemplar of class, and we will continue to strive to honor the game."

It is the second time in three years an MIAA program has been honored with the award. Following the 2015 season, NILOA recognized Albion with the Jim "Ace" Adams Award.

Adams is a coaching legend in the sport of lacrosse. He coached at Army, Pennsylvania, and Virginia before retiring in 1992. At the time of his retirement, Adams had the most wins among active NCAA Division I lacrosse coaches. Adams was a three-time national champion in lacrosse as a student-athlete at Johns Hopkins University (1947-48, 1950).
