Hope Men's Lacrosse Beats Adrian For First Time In MIAA Play

Gunnar Elder surpassed one of his goal-scoring records on a breakthrough night for the Hope College men's lacrosse team.

The junior from East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) scored six times to lead the Flying Dutchmen to an 18-14 win at Adrian on Thursday.

Hope (8-3 overall) remained tied atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings by defeating the Bulldogs for their first time in a league match. At 2-0, the Flying Dutchmen share first place with Albion and Alma.

Elder raised his goal total this season to 52 while helping the Flying Dutchmen extend their record-win match to eight matches. He passed his old record of 49 that he set last season as a junior.

Elder scored four times during the third period to help Hope extend its lead to 14-10 from an 8-7 halftime score.

Elder also recorded six assists during the match. His 12 points equaled the school record reached twice by Jacob Kamstra in 2014 vs. Centenary and Dubuque.

Sophomore Grant Brogan of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS) chipped in four goals for the Flying Dutchmen.

Senior Parker Osterink of Longwood, Florida (Seminole HS) and freshman Gino Battaglia of Lebanon, Ohio (Lebanon HS) each collected three goals and three assists.

Junior Zach Weber of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Pioneer HS) also had a multi-goal game with two goals.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, April 16 with a 1 p.m. Hometown Week match against Kalamazoo at Van Andel Stadium.
