ALBION -- After a nationwide search, Jake Maas has been promoted to the Albion College men's and women's head golf coach. Maas has spent the last five seasons as the assistant on staff and will take the reins of both programs effective July 1.

"I want to thank Matt Arend and Melissa Walton for seeing my vision for the golf program and trusting me with this opportunity," said Maas. " I also want to thank all the members of the athletic department and alumni who have supported me throughout this process."

Over his last five years with the Britons, Maas played an integral role in the programs, assisting with or leading in almost every facet of the teams. Between recruiting, implementing practice plans, monitoring academics and swing instruction, Maas was vital to Albion's golf programs as an assistant coach.

"Jake did an excellent job presenting his vision for team and individual success," said Arend. "He is committed to creating teams that will compete for MIAA and national recognition."

Maas, no stranger to the MIAA, is a 2016 graduate of Olivet College where he obtained his Bachelor's in journalism and mass communication. He was a member of the Comets' golf team, and was a starter in every tournament his senior season.

"I cannot say enough about how much this means to me. I've spent most of my life preparing to be a head coach in the MIAA, and contribute to the conference that has helped shape my life. Over the last five years, Albion College and the city of Albion have become home for me. This is truly a special place and there's nowhere I'd rather coach. I look forward to building this program into the force I know we can become," said Maas.

While the Albion golf schedules have not been finalized yet, Maas and the Britons will be on the links this fall.
