Calvin's Overway and Trine's Garland Receive NABC All-District Recognition

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has proudly announced Calvin University's Jalen Overway and Trine University's Cortez Garland as representatives of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on All-District 7 Teams.

Sophomore center Jalen Overway earned a spot on the All-Distrct 7 First Team.  Earlier this year, Overway was named the MIAA Most Valuable Player and the D3hoops.com Region 7 Player of the Year after leading the Knights to the regular-season co-championship with a 12-2 mark in league play and an overall record of 25-5.  Overway concluded the season as the conference leader with 220 field goals, 230 defensive rebounds, 311 boards, 10.4 rebounds per contest, 591 points, and 19.7 points per game.  He is now a two-time All-MIAA and assisted the Knights to a trip to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.

Senior guard Cortez Garland was selected to the All-District Second Team in his first year on the Thunder squad.  At the time of this announcement, Garland and the squad were heading into the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.  Garland assisted Trine to the regular-season co-championship with a 12-2 mark in league play and an overall record of 29-4.  Earlier this year, Garland became a three-time All-MIAA honoree and was announced to the D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team.  Garland wrapped up the year as the league leader with 138 free throws and in the top three with 178 field goals, 67 steals, 534 points, and 16.2 points per contest.

The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III.
