Trine's Miller Named D3hoops.com Coach of the Year; Three MIAA Players Tabbed All-Americans

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) proudly congratulates its exceptional athletes on their remarkable achievements as they are honored on the D3hoops.com All-America Team.  Among the distinguished recipients are Jalen Overway and Uchenna Egekeze from Calvin University and Trine University's Cortez Garland, along with the esteemed Coach of the Year, Brooks Miller, from Trine.

Brooks Miller of Trine University has been named Coach of the Year, a testament to his outstanding leadership and guidance throughout the season.  Under his mentorship, the men's basketball program made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and swept the competition to take home the national trophy.  The Thunder concluded the season with an overall record of 29-4 (12-2 MIAA).

Sophomore center Jalen Overway from Calvin University has been selected for the First Team, recognizing his exceptional skill and contribution to the game.  Overway was recently tabbed the Region 7 Player of the Year by D3hoops.com.  This season, he was selected as the MIAA Most Valuable Player and is now a two-time All-MIAA honoree.  Overway assisted the Knights to a 12-2 mark in league play for the co-championship title, along with an overall record of 25-5 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.  He concluded the year as the conference leader with 220 field goals, 127 free throws, 230 defensive rebounds, 311 total boards, 10.4 rebounds per contest, 591 points, and 19.7 points per game.

Senior forward Uchenna Egekeze, also from Calvin University, has been honored with a spot on the Third Team.  Egekeze landed on the All-Region First Team earlier this month.  Egekeze concluded the season in the league's top five with 931 minutes played, 32.1 minutes per contest, and 52 steals.  He is now a three-time All-MIAA selection.

Cortez Garland from Trine University has been named to the Fifth Team, showcasing his remarkable talent and commitment to excellence.  The three-time All-MIAA honoree concluded the season as the conference leader with 1,107 minutes played and 138 made free throws.  He is also in the league's top three with 33.5 minutes per game, 178 field goals, 67 steals, 534 points, and 16.2 points per contest.
