Hope College's Greg Mitchell Selected 2024 MIAA Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) proudly announces Hope College's Greg Mitchell as the 2024 Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.

This prestigious accolade is a coaches vote based on the achievements of their colleagues both during regular- and post-season competition.

Mitchell was selected as the 2024 Men's Basketball Coach of the Year after leading the third-seeded Flying Dutchmen to the MIAA Tournament title.  Hope just wrapped up their time in the 2024 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship after a second-round appearance and is currently ranked 22nd in the nation.

"The recognition is attributed to the outstanding assistant coaches around me and the most cohesive and coachable group I could ask for," commented Mitchell.  "Our late season push resulted from a bunch of guys who played with phenomenal toughness defensively and genuine unselfishness offensively.  We overcame way too many injuries for one season, but at the same time, it allowed the strength of our team culture and overall depth to surface.  This is a true TEAM that peaked at the right time and was an absolute joy to coach!"

Under the leadership of Mitchell, two players were selected to 2024 All-MIAA Teams including First-Team selection Tanner Wiegerink and two-time All-MIAA honoree Gabe Quillan on the Second Team.

Since taking over the program in 2014, the Hope alum (1989) has led the Flying Dutchmen to four MIAA regular-season titles and six NCAA Tournament appearances.
