The third-seeded Hope College men's basketball team made its way through the competition to claim the 2023 MIAA Tournament trophy, finishing the week with a 61-54 victory over No.-1 seed Calvin University at Van Noord Arena on February 25.

Following their victory, the Flying Dutchmen have an overall record of 19-9, including a 10-4 mark in regular-season play.

Hope guard Marcus Wourman led the squad with a team-best 18 points (including 6-of-6 from the charity stripe), while forward Evan Thomas also scored in double digits with 14 points.  Clayton Dykhouse contributed a team high of three assists while Tanner Wiegerink blocked a game high of two shots.

Leading for most of the game, the Flying Dutchmen totaled 25 bench points and finished with a field-goal percentage of .396.

Calvin has an overall record of 22-5 with a 13-1 mark in leage play.

Freshman center Jalen Overway, who was recently voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Player, led the Knights with a game-high 22 points (including 16-of-17 from the free-throw line), seven rebounds, and four assists.  Forward Marcus Bult also tallied 14 points and a game-best seven boards for Calvin.

Calvin had a 40-34 edge in rebounds, led 9-8 in assists, and totaled six fast-break points.  The Knights also went 20-of-24 (.833) from the charity stripe.

Hope receives the league's automatic bid into the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.  The championship selection show will be live streamed at NCAA.com on Monday, February 27, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
