Calvin's Jalen Overway Named D3hoops.com National Rookie of the Year

Calvin freshman Jalen Overway has been named the National Rookie of the Year by D3hoops.com.

Overway (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) is the first individual in Calvin men's basketball history to receive the honor.

Earlier in the week, he was named the D3hoops.com All-Region 7 Freshman of the Year and named to the D3hoops.com All-Region First Team.

On Wednesday, he was named an NABC Division III Third Team All-American.

Overway had a standout freshman campaign for the Knights, averaging 18.6 points and 9.9 rebounds a game while connecting on 53.3 percent of his field goal attempts.

During the year he hit for double-digits in scoring 26 of 27 game while amassing 13 double-doubles. Overway hit the 30-point plateau twice during the season including a 34-point outburst in a 59-56 win over No. 3 UW-Oshkosh on November 11.

He was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week in early November and was later named the U.S. Basketball Writer's Division III National Player of the Week later in December. In February he was named one of 50 finalists for the prestigious Bevo Francis Small College Basketball Player of the Year Award.

He was also named MIAA Player of the Week twice during the season. He later was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team.

Overway helped the Calvin men's basketball team post an overall record of 22-5 and claim the MIAA regular season conference championship with a 13-1 league record.
