Calvin's DeVries Named to D3hoops.com National Team of the Week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin senior Derrick DeVries has landed yet another national citation. On Monday night, DeVries was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for his play in road wins over Olivet and Hope last week.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Covenant Christian High School, DeVries averaged 29.5 points and 12.0 rebounds a game while connecting on 51.3 percent (20 of 39) of his field goal attempts including 84.2 percent (16 of 19) at the free throw line.

Last month, DeVries was named to the Top 100 Watch list for the Bevo Francis Award which honors the top small college player (Division II, III and NAIA) in the country.

In a 79-53 win at Olivet Wednesday night, DeVries scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He followed with 35 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in an 84-59 win at Hope on Saturday. Saturday's scoring output marked the sixth 30-point game of the season for DeVries. His Saturday effort also marked his seventh double-double of the season and the 12th of his career.

He has moved into the top 10 of Calvin's career scoring list. He currently sits in 10th place on the Calvin career list with 1,452 points. He is ranked 8th nationally in scoring average at 25.4 points a game.

DeVries is the current MIAA scoring leader with 257 points in 10 conference games.

The Calvin men's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Trine University for a key conference game slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
