Around the MIAA

Adrian (6-19, 3-11)

The Bulldogs went 2-0 last week to end its season on a three-game winning streak, erasing a double-digit deficit in each game. The Bulldogs beat Alma 78-74 on the road, led by junior forward Jeremy Kalonji with a career-high 31 points and classmate Ke’Shaun Wyatt-Morris with a career-high 17 rebounds, putting Wyatt-Morris eighth place all-time in program history for rebounds in a game. Adrian followed that up by defeating Kalamazoo 80-77 in the season finale. Kalonji and MIAA Player of the Week Jordan Harris led the team with 23 points each, and Kalonji grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Kalonji's second double-double this season – in the first game and last game of the year.


Albion (17-8, 10-4)

Albion finished second in the MIAA, its best since finishing second in 2008 when it was 12-2 against MIAA rivals…Albion shot 56 percent (36-64) – its second-best performance of the season – in defeating Hope on the final day of the regular season. Jaylin Fordham led the Briton with 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Ryan Lowe scored a season-high 11.

Alma (5-20, 4-10)

The Scots earned a spot in the MIAA Tournament despite losing both its games last week. Junior Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich.) scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a four-point loss to Adrian on Wednesday (Feb. 13) and freshman Brandon Rake (Whitehall, Mich.) also posted a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 17 rebounds against Trine on Saturday (Feb. 16).

Hope (15-10, 8-6)

The Flying Dutchmen tied for third place in the MIAA standings after claiming a 107-78 Senior Day victory against Olivet and losing at Albion, 87-56. The Flying Dutchmen made a DeVos Fieldhouse-record 18 3-pointers against Olivet, including six by senior forward Teddy Ray (Fort Wayne, Ind.).


Kalamazoo (7-18, 4-10)

The Hornets wrapped up their season with losses to Trine (67-57) and at Adrian (80-77) last week. Ben Reiter led Kalamazoo on the offensive end in each game by scoring 14 points on Wednesday and pouring on 28 points on 6-of-11 three-point shooting against Adrian. Reiter finished the season leading the Hornets in scoring at 14.5 points per game. Tanner Blyly and Jeremiah Vincent each averaged double figures with 12.9 and 12.1 points, respectively. Vincent and Bass Ollie led the way in the rebounding column by both averaging five rebounds per game. Blyly averaged 3.7 assists per game this season.


Olivet (12-13, 8-6)

The Comets split their two games last week to gain the third seed in the 2019 MIAA Tournament. On Wednesday night, the Comets fell to Hope, 107-78. Senior Tracy Edmond led all scorers with 29 points and dished out six assists. Junior Trevor Manuel scored 24 points, while senior John McAdoo added 12 points. Olivet ended the week with an 85-71 win over Calvin. Edmond stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high 24 points to go along with six rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Manuel and senior Colin Jones each scored 22 points. Manuel grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Edmond is 20 points shy of becoming the 14th player in school history to surpass the 1,000 career point plateau.
