Eight games into the 2018 MIAA title race, seven teams are within two games of the lead, and four teams are tied for first with 5-3 records. Alma Sports Information Director Paul Thomas dug up a few more notes heading into the final six MIAA contests:

- The last team to win the MIAA championship with four losses was in 1999, when Calvin and Hope shared the title with 10-4 records; that year marked just the third time since 1910-11 that a four-loss team won the regular season title.
- No team has won the MIAA championship with five or more losses in the league's storied history.
- Only twice in MIAA history have three teams tied for the regular season title: 1918 (Kalamazoo, Adrian, and Alma) and 1981 (Albion, Calvin, and Hope).

• Albion was the lone MIAA team to go 2-0 last week, and the Britons currently own a three-game MIAA winning streak to now sit one game back in the league standings. Albion defeated Hope Jan. 24, 86-68, for the Britons' first win at home over the Flying Dutchmen since 2010. Quinton Armstrong (Fr., F, Lansing, Mich.) had team highs of 19 points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Against Olivet Jan. 27, Albion had four starters score in double figures, led by Corey Wheeler (Sr., G, Detroit, Mich.) and his game-best 21 points; with his effort, Wheeler surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

• Earning MIAA Athlete of the Week honors for Jan. 29 was:

  - Maurice Hunter, Trine
