Nail-biters, key upsets, and buzzer-beaters were among last week's contests in MIAA play. Among notable efforts:

• Hope's 2-0 week, which included an 87-84 win at home against Olivet Jan. 20, helped force a four-way tie for first place in the MIAA standings six games into the conference season. In Hope's 99-88 win over Alma Jan. 17, Jason Beckman (Jr., G, Shelby, Mich.) poured in 41 points - his second 40-point game of the season - to lead the Flying Dutchmen. 

• Kalamazoo halted Calvin on a buzzer-beating tip-in Jan. 17, 70-69. Jimmy Paprocki (Sr., C, Berkley, Mich.) tipped-in an off-target shot to vault the Hornets past the Knights.

• Olivet handed Adrian the Bulldogs' first MIAA setback of the season with a 65-62 win at Adrian Jan. 17. Tracy Edmond (Jr., G, East Lansing, Mich.) had game-bests of 24 points and four assists while Jalen Adams (Sr., G, Saginaw, Mich.) added a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.

• Trine's 2-0 week vaulted the Thunder into a tie for first place in the MIAA. In Trine's 74-57 win over Kalamazoo Jan. 20, Pete Smith (Jr., G, Bristol, Ind.) connected on 11 3-pointers to set a Trine record. In their convincing 104-74 win over Albion Jan. 17, Trine outscored the Britons 59-31 in the second half, thanks to 70.6 (24-34) shooting during the second stanza.
