• Hope fended off a pair of MIAA challengers to improve to 6-0 in conference play. Against Kalamazoo Jan. 21, Harrison Blackledge (Sr., F, Canton, Ohio) led all scorers and four Hope players in double figures with 16 points in the Flying Dutchmen's 78-58 victory. Hope also notched a 75-65 mid-week win over Adrian, as again Blackledge was the team's leading scorer with 21 points, just missing a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds.
• Alma tallied two league wins last week, including an 89-87 win over Albion Jan. 21. Ryan Stevens (Fr., G, Lowell, Mich.) connected with five seconds left in the contest to give the Scots their margin of victory; Stevens finished with 10 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists. Teammate Tyler Edwards (Sr., F, Flint, Mich.) tallied 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while Trevor Gernaat (Sr., F, McBain, Mich.) had a game-best 27 points, aided by an 11-of-11 effort at the free throw line. Earlier in the week, Gernaat's 30-point performance was integral in Alma's 85-74 victory over Trine Jan. 18.
• Kalamazoo thwarted Calvin's quest for an unblemished league slate with their 79-70 home win Jan. 18. Josh Miller (Sr., C, Grand Rapids, Mich.) tallied 25 points off the bench, while Josh Whitney (Sr., G, Lansing, Mich.) had a good day with 11 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. The Hornets shot 57.4 percent from the field, bolstered by Miller's 12-of-14 effort.
• Albion just missed a 2-0 week in MIAA action, but Alma's late hoop in their 89-87 setback Jan. 21 dashed the Brits' hopes. The Brits posted a 79-71 victory against Olivet Jan. 18, paced by matching 16 point efforts from Corey Wheeler (Jr., G, Detroit, Mich.) and, off the bench, Dylan Bennett (So., G, Brighton, Mich.).
