One-hundred wins in The Rivalry means many things for the Hope College men's basketball team, most notably an outright Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship. The sixth-ranked Flying Dutchmen won 65-61 at Calvin Saturday to clinch first place all to themselves in the league standings for the 32nd time in program history.

Hope improved its all-time record against Calvin to 100-93 with its second win in the series this season.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 23-2 overall with their 11th consecutive victory and completed MIAA play with a 13-1 league record.

"We have some goals and today was one of them," senior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) said. "We are definitely excited about it, but we have some more goals to accomplish."

Against Calvin, Hope used a balanced offense that featured eight or more points from six different players.

Senior center Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS) and junior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) shared team-high honors with 11 points apiece.

Benson now needs five points to become the 38th Flying Dutchmen player to reach 1,000 in his career. He recorded a double-double against Calvin (10-15, 5-9 MIAA) with a game-high 12 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) chipped in 10 points.

Senior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) scored nine points.

Junior forward Cody Stuive of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) and junior guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) added eight apiece. 

"This is the greatest feeling in the world, especially with what happened last year," Stuive said, referring to Calvin's last-second 70-69 win in the 2015 MIAA Tournament championship game. "It's an amazing team effort." 

Hope has won 38 MIAA men's basketball in all — the most among MIAA schools.
