No. 7 Hope Men's Basketball Cruises Past Adrian On Senior Night

Senior Night brought out the best from five players from the seventh-ranked Hope College men's basketball team Saturday night. Seniors Brock Benson, Alex Eidson, Ben Gardner, Sam Otto and Stephen Wittenbach all started together for the first time this season and combined for 70 points in a 94-71 win against Adrian in front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 3,177.

The Flying Dutchmen (21-2 overall) matched their season-high with a nine-game win streak while also remaining tied atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings. Both Hope and Alma are 11-1 in league play with two games remaining.

Benson recorded a season-high and team-high 22 points. The center from Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS) shot 7-of-12 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line.

Otto, from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS), netted 17 points.

Gardner, from Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS), totaled 14 points, while Eidson, from Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) added 11. Wittenbach, from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS), finished with six points.

The Flying Dutchmen led for all but the first 1 minute, 12 seconds of the game. Hope charged ahead 42-26 by halftime.

Junior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) scored 13 points off the bench for the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Kalamazoo. Tipoff is 8 p.m.
