Herron, Oakes Shoulder Load

ALBION, Mich. - Albion College found it hard to get production from its backcourt players so Jordan Herron and Travell Oakes shouldered the load.

The Briton seniors produced double-doubles to boost Albion to a 60-41 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College.

Herron completed his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Oakes achieved his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

"Adrian is a tough group and nothing comes easy," Albion Head Coach Jody May said after his team improved to 12-10 overall and 7-4 against league rivals. "I told them before the game that only a man can play in this game. They did a great job of putting pressure on our perimeter guys. So we had to find other ways to score and T.O. and Jordan stepped up."

Herron was especially good in the second half, scoring 11 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Britons never let Adrian mount a dangerous rally.

Jaylin Fordham and Oakes combined for 10 points as Albion opened the game on a 12-5 run.

Albion seized control of the game with an 11-0 run over three minutes. Robert Ryan ignited the spurt with a pair of free throws and a jumper and Oakes added an old-fashioned three-point play. Corey Wheeler tacked on a pair of free throws as Albion extended the margin to 29-12 with 6:21 left in the first half.

Albion settled for a 30-16 lead at halftime and it led by at least nine the rest of the way.

Ryan also scored in double figures for Albion with 11.

Christian Covile and Anthony Cannon produced 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Adrian.

Albion will pause to recognize its seniors – Herron, Dakota Kazen, De'Tavia Moore and Oakes – prior to its 3 p.m. Saturday home game against Olivet College.
