No. 7 Hope Men's Basketball Wins Rematch With No. 12 Alma For Share Of MIAA Lead

The seventh-ranked Hope College men's basketball team is back atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings after earning a 71-57 win against No. 12 Alma on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 17-2 overall and 9-1 in MIAA play with their seventh consecutive win. Alma (16-5 overall) also has a 9-1 league record.

Junior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) led Hope with a game-high 17 points in front of a sold-out DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 3,477. Blackledge finished with a 8-of-9 shooting from the foul line and a 4-of-8 effort from the field.

Senior center Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS) and senior guard Alex Eidson of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) chipped in 15 points apiece. Benson also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Junior guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) added 10 points, including a team-high three 3-pointers.

Hope ended Alma's longest win streak since the 1941-42 season at 11 games by limiting the Scots to 42.6 percent field-goal shooting. The Scots entered leading nation in field-goal percentage at 52.2 percent.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Trine.
