Sam Otto drilled a DeVos Fieldhouse record seven 3-pointers to boost the nationally ranked Hope College men's basketball team to a 93-83 win vs. Carthage, Wisconsin on Saturday in the finale of the Midwest Challenge. The senior forward from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton North HS) scored a career-high 27 points for the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division III by D3Hoops.com, won two games at the Midwest Challenge for the second consecutive season and matched Wheaton, Illinois with 14 wins in the tournament's history.

Otto went 7-of-10 from 3-point range to surpass the previous DeVos record of six 3-pointers made that was shared by current teammate Alex Eidson, Derek VanSolkema, Jesse Reimink and Stephen Cramer.

"I found my rhythm early, so I kept firing up some shots," Otto said.

Otto sank four 3-pointers and totaled 14 points to help the Flying Dutchmen outscore Carthage (4-3) by a 47-37 margin during the second half.

Junior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) netted 11 of his 17 points during the second half, while senior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS) chipped in nine of his 20.

Gardner now has 962 career points.

The Flying Dutchmen made a season-high 11 3-pointers. Gardner hit two, while senior guard Alex Eidson of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) and junior guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) sank one apiece. 

Hope returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 when it hosts Wisconsin-Platteville. Tipoff is 3 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse. There will be a free team poster giveaway after the game.
