Alma College's Jason Couch Named 2023 MIAA Football Coach of the Year

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) proudly announces Alma College's Jason Couch as the 2023 Football Coach of the Year.

This prestigious accolade is a coaches vote based on the achievements of their colleagues both during regular- and post-season competition.

Couch was selected as the 2023 Football Coach of the Year after leading the Scots to their second-consecutive MIAA title with an unblemished record of 6-0 (10-0 overall).  This is the first time that Alma has had back-to-back conference titles in 55 years.  In his sixth season at the helm of the program, Couch landed sixteen players on the All-MIAA Team, including 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Offensive Player Carter St. John.

"This is truly an honor," commented Couch.  "I consider this a staff and team award.  The coaches work extremely hard and are dedicated to providing our players with the best experience possible.  Our players have embraced our KILTSTYLE culture and have performed wonderfully on the field and in the classroom."

Under the leadership of Couch, Alma is currently ranked thirteenth in the nation.

Since taking over the program in 2018, the Alma alum (1997) has led the Scots to their first MIAA Championship since 2004 in 2022 and their first NCAA Playoff win in program history.  Last season, Couch was tabbed the D3football.com Region 4 Coach of the Year.

Alma will host DePauw University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship this Saturday, November 18, at 12:00 p.m.
