Albion's Fannon and Hope's Flegler Tabbed All-Americans by AFCA

WACO, Texas -- On December 11, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the 2023 Division III Coaches’ All-America Teams.  Albion College's Nick Fannon and Hope College's Nick Flegler both represent the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on the All-America Second Team-Defense.

Fannon, a senior defensive lineman, was voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Defensive Player after assisting the Brits to a 3-3 mark in conference competition and an overall record of 7-3.  Fannon concluded the 2023 campaign as the MIAA's leader with 12.5 sacks and is second in the league with 65 sack yards.  He was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on September 25 and is now a two-time All-MIAA honoree.

Flegler, a sophomore safety, helped the Flying Dutchmen to an overall record of 8-2, including a 5-1 mark in regular-season play.  He earned a spot on the All-MIAA First Team for the first time in his career.  Flegler finished first in the league with a total of five interceptions and third in the MIAA with 51 solo tackles.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team every year since 1945.  The AFCA’s Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA’s seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee.  The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
