Alma Football Wins MIAA Championship for the First Time Since 2004

ALMA, Mich. -- Alma College won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship for the first time since 2004.  The Scots made program history by winning 10 games in a single season.

The MIAA Championship game was held between two undefeated teams (6-0 MIAA, 9-0 overall)):  Alma and Albion.  After a battle for the conference crown and a perfect league record, the Scots came out victorious with a 34-31 edge over the Brits.

On Alma's side, quarterback Carter St. John completed 22 passes for 298 yards.  Running back Eddie Williams finished with a game-high 105 rushing yards in 31 attempts.  Kicker Joshua Hernandez went 4-of-5 in extra points, while punter Kaleb Kindsvatter totaled 302 yards.

The Scots led 450-418 in offensive yards and totaled three interceptions.

On the Albion squad, quarterback Luke Lovell completed 30 passes for a total of 370 yards.  Wide receiver Brendan Teal led the game with 148 receiving yards.  Kicker Logan Grwinski went 4-of-4 in extra points and tacked on three additional points with a field goal, while punter Hunter Williams 225 yards with one touchback and four inside the 20.

Alma received the MIAA's automatic bid into the 2022 NCAA Division III Football Championships.  The Scots will host Mt. St. Joseph (10-0 overall) in the First Round on Saturday, November 19, at 1:00 p.m.
