FREELAND, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the spring 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football regular season, head coaches from six of the MIAA's football-sponsoring institutions voted on All-MIAA awards.
Albion's Jack Bush was selected Most Valuable Player on offense, while Olivet's Ta'Mar Heart-Wilkins was named the Most Valuable Player on defense. Albion senior Jonathan Lutchka received the Pete Schmidt Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award.
Bush, a junior quarterback, led the Britons to the MIAA Championship title and a 3-0 conference record during the spring season. In league play, Bush finished first with 89 pass completions, a .718 completion percentage (89-of-124), 1,077 total yards, 359.0 yards per game, and a pass efficiency rating of 161.2. Bush was named MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week on April 27.
Heart-Wilkins, a senior defensive lineman, concluded conference play as the leader in sacks (5) and sack yards (30). The Comet also registered 13 solo tackles and six assists for a total of 19.0 tackles, averaging 4.8 tackles per contest.
Lutchka, a senior quarterback for the Britons, is working towards a degree in biology with a minor in economics. He has been on the Dean's List the last six semesters and is a member of the Wilson Institute of Medicine. Among numerous other academic accomplishments, Lutchka has been accepted into the Wayne State University School of Medicine. The Pete Schmidt Memorial Scholar-Athlete award has been presented every year since 2001 honoring the legacy of Pete Schmidt, an Alma College alumni and Albion College football coach who died of cancer in 2000.
Albion's Mitchell Arendsen and Justin Thomas, and Kalamazoo's Noah Coplan have each garnered All-MIAA honors for the third time in their careers.
