Five from MIAA Named All-North Region Selections by D3football.com

Five Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football players were honored today with their selection as All-North Region team members by D3football.com. Leading the way for the MIAA was Hope offensive lineman Zach Smith, who garnered first-team honors; Hope teammates Mason Dekker (second team) and Timothy Ivery (third team) also were recognized. Albion's Chase Bouschor and Olivet's Anthony Merriman were also third team selections.

Smith anchored an offensive line that paved the way for the MIAA's top scoring offensive at 46.0 points per game and second-ranked total offense at 439.7 yards per game.

Dekker finished third for Hope with 39 tackles, including 28 against MIAA opponents. Dekker recorded two sacks and one interception. The Flying Dutchmen led the MIAA in scoring defense at 16.9 points per game and total defense at 294.1 yards per game.

Ivery provided blindside protection for quarterback Mason Opple and helped power an offensive line for the MIAA's highest-scoring offense. The 6-3, 240-pound Ivery earned All-MIAA First Team honors this season.

Bouschor, the MIAA Pete Schmidt Memoral Award winner this fall, was a leader on the Albion offensive line that generated 445 yards of offense and 39 points per game. Bouschor, a senior, was an All-MIAA selection for the third time in 2019.

Merriman, a first-team All-MIAA selection in 2019, started every game for the Comets at the strong safety position. Merriman finished the season with 54 total tackles, including 41 solo stops. Merriman had three interceptions this past fall. One of the picks was at the goal-line and returned 34 yards to seal Olivet's 21-17 win over Adrian College, and another was returned 45 yards for a touchdown at Alma College.
