Trine Football Upended in NCAA Second Round By Wartburg

The Trine University football team (11-1) saw their 2017 campaign come to a close Nov. 25 with a 49-7 loss to Wartburg in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Football Championship in Waverly, Iowa. 

The Thunder committed an uncharacteristic six turnovers in the contest, including three in the first quarter. For the game, Trine finished with just 228 yards of offense as the Wartburg defense was up to the challenge.

Wartburg (12-0) owned a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, benefitting from two Trine turnovers on the way to their first two touchdowns. The Knights added three more unanswered touchdowns before Trine broke through in the third quarter with a Lamar Carswell touchdown run. 

Trine concludes their 2017 season with 11 victories, tying a program standard; the Thunder now own a 3-4 all-time record in NCAA postseason play.
