MIAA Football Week #9 Wrap-Up

• Olivet ground out a 36-30 win over Alma Oct. 29 in a contest between two of the top teams in the MIAA standings; with the victory, the Comets won their seventh consecutive outing and improved to 4-0 in MIAA action. Braden Black (Sr., QB, Battle Creek, Mich.) fired for 279 yards on 17-of-21 passing for four touchdowns, twice connecting with Mitchell Bailey (Sr., WR, East Leroy, Mich.). Damorria Lilly (Sr., RB, Warren, Mich.) led the Comets with 108 yards on the ground as Olivet finished with 451 total yards of offense. Javon Walker (Jr., DB, Lansing, Mich.) broke up a pair of passes on the defensive end and finished with a team-best seven tackles.

• Hope posted their fourth consecutive win of the season with their 31-6 victory over Kalamazoo Saturday, reclaiming the Wooden Shoes series trophy. After the Hornets scored on an interception return early in the first half, Hope settled down and put the game's next 31 points on the board. Mike Miklusicak (Jr., RB, Wayland, Mich.) rushed for 166 yards on 21 carries for three touchdowns, including a 55-yard run late in the third quarter. Defensively, Hope held Kalamazoo scoreless on offense with 10 tackles for loss, including four sacks.

• Trine rebounded from their first MIAA loss of the season with their 31-13 victory at home against Adrian, the Thunder's first win over the Bulldogs in the Black and Blue Border Brawl since 2010. Trine's stiffling defense was paced by an 11-tackle effort by Robert Riley (Jr., FS, Mendon, Mich.) and two recovered fumbles by Erik Mawhorter (Sr., S, Ligonier, Ind.). On offense, Brandon Rooze (Sr., QB, West Lafayette, Ind.) and Andrew Duckett (So., QB, Niles, Mich.) combined to pass for three touchdowns.

• Albion posted their first win of the season with a 63-20 rout of Rockford Oct. 29. The Brits bounded out to a 35-0 advantage and never looked back, churning out 478 total yards on offense. Albion's Sam Blanzy (So., QB, Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) passed for 352 yards and four touchdowns and led the team with 45 yards rushing. Rayshawn Robinson (So., CB, Jackson, Mich.) had five tackles on defense and added a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown; the Albion defense racked up nine tackles for loss, including three sacks, and three interceptions.
