MIAA Football Week #8 Wrap-Up

MIAA Football Week #8 Wrap-Up

After Week #8 for MIAA football, five of seven teams now have winning records in conference action, while one team extended their winning streak to six games. Among the notable efforts from Saturday:

• Hope gave Trine its first MIAA loss of the season as the Flying Dutchmen rose for a 31-7 home victory over the Thunder Oct. 22. After spotting Trine a touchdown on the game's opening drive, Hope hunkered down and allowed just 159 yards the rest of the way defensively; Aaron O'Meara (Sr., LB, Wyandotte, Mich.) had 13 tackles and one sack. Hope's running game amassed four touchdowns and 260 yards, including 132 yards and two scores by Brandan Campbell (Jr., RB, Otsego, Mich.).

• Alma jumped out to a 23-0 lead and didn't look back as the Scots defeated Albion 37-14 at home Saturday. Dylan Zaborowski (Jr., QB, Jackson, Mich.) finished with 300 total yards of offense, passing for 178 yards on 23-of-35 passing with two touchdowns while scampering for 122 yards on the ground and adding two more rushing scores. Alma's defense forced four turnovers, including three fumbles, in holding the Brits in check; Zac Peterson (Jr., LB, Holt, Mich.) and Justin Thelen (Sr., DB, Westphalia, Mich.) finished with 12 and 11 tackles, respectively.

• Adrian improved to 2-1 in the MIAA with their 31-13 win over Kalamazoo Oct. 22. After a pair of Hornets field goals, the Bulldogs scored the game's next 31 points to secure the home victory. Hunter Hamm (Fr., QB, Baytown, Texas) fired for 343 passing yards on 21-of-34 passing with two touchdowns to aid in the attack, while Kyle Nutter (Jr., RB, Genoa, Ohio) rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Davis (Jr., OLB, Davison, Mich.) turned in a highlight day defensively with team-highs of 12 tackles, including eight solo, 3.5 sacks, another tackle for loss, and a broken up pass.

• Olivet needed extra time to defeat non-conference challenger Benedictine on Saturday, out-lasting the Eagles 54-48. After holding Benedictine in check on the first overtime possession, Braden Black (Sr., QB, Battle Creek, Mich.) connected with Andre Houston (So., RB, Bay City, Mich.) from nine yards out for the game-winning score. Black finished with 329 yards on 29-of-38 passing and three touchdowns, while Jerome Washington (Jr., RB, Albion, Mich.) hammered out 114 yards of rushing with three touchdowns on the ground.
