MIAA Football Week #7 Wrap-Up

MIAA Football Week #7 Wrap-Up

It was deja-vu all over again last week as Olivet, Trine, and Hope all gathered MIAA wins for the second consecutive week, while Alma went out of MIAA play to earn a non-conference victory Saturday to highlight Week #7:

• Olivet upset Albion's homecoming and earned its first win against the Brits since 2007 with their 31-14 victory Saturday. The Comets held Albion scoreless for the second half and allowed just eight yards rushing for the day, as the defense grabbed two interceptions and registered six tackles for loss. Javon Walker (Jr., DB, Lansing, Mich.) led Olivet with 10 tackles and added an interception. Jerome Washington (Jr., RB, Albion, Mich.) rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, and Braden Black (Sr., QB, Battle Creek, Mich.) connected with Mitchell Bailey (Sr., WR, East Leroy, Mich.) for 88 of the team's 139 passing yards and one touchdown.

• Trine's offense posted 42 first-half points to cruise to a 42-17 win at Kalamazoo Oct. 15. Lamar Carswell (So., RB, Toledo, Ohio) had touchdown runs of 70 and 19 yards on the way to 150 yards rushing on 18 carries and surpassed the 1,000-yards rushing mark for the season for the Thunder. Brandon Rooze (Sr., QB, West Lafayette, Ind.) added two touchdown passes on 10-of-18 passing. Defensively, the Thunder were led by seven-tackle efforts by Taylor James (Sr., LB, LaPorte, Ind.) and Joseph Domogalik (Jr., LB, Indianapolis, Ind.), with Domogalik adding two sacks.

• Hope won its second MIAA matchup of the season and improved to 3-3 overall with a 25-7 road win against Adrian Saturday. Darren Ford (Jr., K, Howell, Mich.) tied the MIAA record for field goals in a game with four and finishing with 13 points. Setting up Ford's effort was Hope's rushing attack of Brandan Campbell (Jr., RB, Otsego, Mich.) and Mike Miklusicak (Jr., RB, Wayland, Mich.) as the duo combined for 338 yards and one touchdown. Campbell averaged 8.6 yards per carry on his way to 171 yards, while Miklusicak scored in the third quarter and finished with 167 yards on the ground. Hope's defense hastled Adrian with three sacks and three interceptions; Griffin Weigl (Jr., LB, Saginaw, Mich.) led the Flying Dutchmen with seven tackles, while Kirk Gibson (Sr., CB, Scotts, Mich.) had an interception, four tackles and two broken up passes.

• Alma jumped out to a 28-0 second-quarter lead and never looked back as the Scots defeated Aurora (Ill.) Oct. 15, 38-14. Nick Sullivan (Sr., RB, Flushing, Mich.) rushed for three touchdowns as Alma out-ran Aurora 358-49; the Scots boasted a time of possession advantage of 40:48 to 19:12 thanks to its pounding ground game. In holding Aurora to just 188 yards of total offense, Alma was led defensively by Zac Peterson (Jr., LB, Holt, Mich.) and Dustin Tripp (Jr., DL, Byron Center, Mich.), who each had six tackles.
