Kalamazoo's Rinehart Tabbed Rookie of the Week by NCBWA; Albion's Giesige Named Honorable Mention Pitcher

On Wednesday, April 19, Kalamazoo College freshman third baseman Ryar Rinehart was selected NCAA Division III Rookie of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).  Additionally, Albion College freshman Cole Giesige was tabbed Honorable Mention Pitcher.

Rinehart led the Hornets offensively to a 7-0 record last week, slashing a .593/.649/1.222 over the seven contests.  In 27 at bats, Rinehart totaled 16 runs, five doubles, four home runs, and 19 RBIs.  He also had five put outs and eight assists in 17 total chances.  Overall, Rinehart currently leads the conference with 11 doubles, 46 runs batted in, and six sacrifice flies.

Giesige led the Brits to an 8-2 victory at Olivet last Wednesday.  He totaled 17 strikeouts in seven innings pitched, while only allowing three hits and zero runs.  In conference play alone, Giesige leads the MIAA with 17.25 strikeouts per game.

Albion hosts Hope tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. while Kalamazoo is next in action on Friday versus Alma at 4:00 p.m.
