Late Comeback Falls Short as Adrian Baseball Losses 11-10 in Opening Regional Game

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Adrian College baseball team began NCAA Regional play on Friday morning as they took on the No. 1 seeded Marietta College Pioneers. The Bulldogs held an early lead before Marietta responded with an 8-run fifth inning. The Bulldogs chipped away down the stretch but fell short and lost the opening round 11-10.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Adrian grabbed the first lead of the game on an RBI double from Edward Wagner to score Jakob Charles who opened the game with a leadoff walk.
  • Marietta scored in the bottom of the first on a solo homer before adding two more in the second.
  • The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the fourth inning and took the lead on a bases clearing double from Logan Loeffler.
  • Marietta responded with a big fifth inning scoring eight runs to lead 11-4.
  • Ryan Davis singled in a run to left field in the seventh inning which was followed by a 2-RBI triple from Easton Rogers and an RBI groundout from Linken Hayward to make it 11-8.
  • In the eighth inning, Wagner singled in another run for Adrian which put Charles on third base who later scored to make it 11-10 on a sacrifice fly from AJ Miranda.
  • The Bulldogs went down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning as the late comeback fell short.
  • Daniel Gutierrez started on the mound where he allowed ten runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. Michael Swanson allowed a run in relief on three hits while Jaxon ClarkGriffin Firestine, and Lincoln Lipinski threw scoreless innings.
  • Adrian totaled seven hits on the morning led by a two-hit game from Wagner.
