Freeland, Mich -- The Hope College baseball program has been named the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular-season champion. The Flying Dutchmen have been seeded first in the MIAA Baseball Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, May 11.
Hope earned the regular-season title for the first time outright since 2007. The Flying Dutchmen shared the championship crown with Adrian in 2013.
Hope concluded the 2022 season with a 17-4 mark in league play. The Flying Dutchmen clinched the title after back-to-back victories at Trine on Saturday.
Senior Brant Kym led the Flying Dutchmen with 41 hits, 33 RBIs, a batting average of .500 (41-82) during league play. Senior Evan Maday totaled a team-best 30 runs and seven home runs. Pitcher Sean Hoey leads the conference with 51 strikeouts, 20 walks, and 43.0 innings pitched.
Joining Hope in the four-team MIAA Tournament are second-seeded Kalamazoo (15-6), third-seeded Adrian (12-9), and fourth-seeded Calvin (11-10).
The Flying Dutchmen will host Calvin and Kalamazoo will host Adrian on May 11 at 4:00 p.m. The remainder of the games will be held at Boeve Baseball Stadium in Holland, May 12-13. For further information, visit the MIAA Baseball Tournament Central.
