Adrian Baseball Punches Ticket to NCAA DIII World Series
Adrian vs. UW-Whitewater (May 31, 2021)

WHITEWATER, Wis. – After a long weekend of games, the Adrian College baseball team made its way to the Regional Championship in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The No. 1 seeded Bulldogs took on the No. 2 seeded UW-Whitewater Warhawks in a winner take all game. After being no hit through six innings of play, the Bulldogs came back and walked it off in the bottom of the tenth on a solo home run from Tristin Richardson.

HOW IT HAPPENED

= Whitewater took an early 2-0 lead after a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. 

= After Ty Peck robbed a homer in center, Whitewater added another run in the third after a runner stole second and was quickly scored on a single to left.

= Adrian had an opportunity in the third with two runners on base that were hit by pitches, but were unable to drive them home. 

= Whitewater homered again in the fifth to make it a 4-0 game.

= The Warhawks added two more in the seventh on a 2-RBI double with runners on first and second to lead 6-0.

= The Bulldogs didn't go away yet. In the bottom of the seventh, Joe Casale recorded Adrian's first hit of the ball game which was followed by a single from Peck to load the bases. Brady Wood hit a grand slam to put the Bulldogs on the board and back into the game.

= Whitewater went on to score in the top of the ninth to lead 7-4, but Adrian quickly answered. With two guys on, Wood doubled to drive in a pair and cut the Warhawk lead to one. Gunner Rainey went on to drive it Wood to tie the game 7-7.

= After a scoreless tenth inning for Adrian in the field, Tristin Richardson led off the bottom of the tenth with a solo home run to win it!

= Elliott Edsall made the start on the mound throwing three innings allowing three runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Spencer Ford came in relief throwing 3.2 innings allowing two runs on two hits.

Adrian vs. UW-Whitewater (May 30, 2021)

WHITEWATER, Wis. – After a come from behind win in day three of the NCAA Baseball Regionals, the Adrian College baseball team took on the host University of Wisconsin Whitewater. For the second day in a row, the Bulldogs became the "Comeback Kids" and took home a 3-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

= A pitcher's duel started the game as each team was held scoreless through four innings of play.

= The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on a RBI double by Gunner Rainey to score Ty Peck.

= Adrian had an opportunity in the seventh with Sean O'Keefe on first. Brady Wood doubled to deep centerfield, but the ball bounced over the wall for a ground rule double to hold O'Keefe at third where he was later left stranded.

= Maxwell Denny got the start for Adrian and took Whitewater in the eighth inning scoreless. Whitewater led off the eighth with a double which went around to score followed by another run to lead 2-1 late in the game.

= Pierce Banks came in relief with the bases loaded and got two outs to stop the Whitewater threat. 

= Trailing by one in the top of the ninth, the Bulldogs battled back. Brady Wood hit a single to right field with runners on second a third to take the lead 3-2.

= Whitewater didn't go away in the bottom half of the inning. With one out and runners on second and third threatening to score, the next batter flew out to right field and Tristin Richardson threw home to Rainey to tag the tying run out at the plate with win the game.

= Denny went 7.1 innings on the mound for Adrian allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.


Adrian vs. Penn St. Harrisburg

WHITEWATER, Wis. – Facing elimination, the Adrian College baseball team took on the Penn St. Harrisburg Lions in day three of the NCAA DIII Baseball Regionals. Adrian trailed 9-1 through four innings of play, but battled back to give the Lions a game. After a back-and-forth battle, the Bulldogs came away with a 15-14 win to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

= The Bulldogs jumped on the board first with a RBI single from Sean O'Keefe that was set up by a Tristin Richardson double.

= The Lions went on to respond with three in the bottom half of the second on a ground out and a 2-RBI single.

= Penn St. added three more in the third inning on a pair of hits and a wild pitch, and followed it up with three more in the fourth on a bases clearing double to lead 9-1.

= Adrian put up a four spot in the sixth with the help of RBI doubles from O'Keefe and Brady Wood, along with a Lion error and a sacrifice fly from Thomas Miller.

= The Bulldogs took the lead in the seventh inning after a bases clearing double from O'Keefe, a run scored on a fielder's choice, and a single from Kevin Cardentey to lead 10-9.

= The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, but Thomas Miller quickly responded with a 2-RBI double to lead 12-10.

= Penn St. continued to battle from behind and took the lead in the bottom of the eighth, 14-12.

= Adrian went on to take the lead again in the ninth with a 2-RBI double from Richardson and a sac fly for O'Keefe to lead 15-14.

= Gage Ricker came on for the ninth to lock down the win as Adrian held on to win 15-14.


Adrian vs. Texas Lutheran

WHITEWATER, Wis. – In day two of the NCAA DIII Baseball Regionals, the Adrian College baseball team took on the No. 3 seeded Texas Lutheran. The Bulldogs struggled on offense recording no runs on five hits. Adrian dropped the contest 4-0 to Texas Lutheran.

HOW IT HAPPENED

= Texas Lutheran took an early 3-0 lead after a big first inning. The Bulldogs recorded two errors in the field allowing two unearned runs.

= Texas Lutheran added another one in the second inning to extend its lead to 4-0. They had the bases loaded, but Gage Ricker went on to strikeout the side to limit the damage. 

= Adrian didn't get its first hit until the bottom of the fifth when Kevin Cardentey led off the at bats with a single to left center but was never brought home to score.

= Adrian had another opportunity in the sixth when Thomas Miller tripled with one out.

= Trey Miller came in relief for Adrian in the third and finished the day with 6.2 innings pitched allowing no runs on four hits, four walks, with three strikeouts.

= Cardentey finished the game with three hits for the Bulldogs.


Adrian vs. Salem State

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The NCAA Baseball Regionals kicked off in Whitewater, Wisconsin on Thursday with the first game of the day between the No. 1 seeded Adrian College Bulldogs, and the No. 6 seed Salem State Vikings. The Bulldogs took home a 2-0 win with the help of a 2-RBI day from Gunner Rainey.

HOW IT HAPPENED

= Adrian struck early in the bottom of the first. Thomas Miller led the game off with a walk and a stolen base. Brady Wood bunted Miller over to third who later scored on a RBI groundout from Gunner Rainey.

= After back-to-back singles from Ty Peck and Miller to lead off the third, and another sacrifice bunt by Wood, Rainey drove in the second run of the ballgame on another RBI groundout.

= Salem State had a chance in the fourth, but grounded into a double play to end the inning allowing the Bulldogs to get out of the jam.

= Pierce Banks started on the mound for Adrian throwing seven innings allowing no runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

= Spencer Ford worked a quick eighth inning in relief for Adrian which was followed by the save from Jacob Hanoian to close out the game.
