MIAA Baseball Players Named All-Region by D3baseball.com
Four baseball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were selected to All-Mideast Region teams by D3baseball.com on Tuesday, June 1.
 
Pitcher Pierce Banks and catcher Gunner Rainey both represented Adrian on the First Team, along with Bulldog designated hitter Kevin Cardentey on the Second Team.  Calvin pitcher Trevor VanDuyn was selected to the All-Mideast Region Third Team.
 
Banks, a fifth-year senior at Adrian, was voted the 2021 Pitcher of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the regular-season championship, followed by the NCAA Division III Regional Championship.  Going into the NCAA DIII World Series, Banks has pitched a total of 83 strikeouts over 82.1 innings with an ERA of 1.86.
 
Rainey was named MIAA Position Player of the Year for his second-straight season in 2021.  The fifth-year senior currently totals 265 put outs, 105 total bases, 45 RBI, 69 hits, 18 doubles, 12 runners caught stealing, a .404 batting average, and a .614 slugging percentage.
 
Cardentey also assisted the Bulldogs to their 12th-straight regular-season championship and the regional title.  The junior was selected to the All-MIAA Second Team in May.  Cardentey currently has a slugging percentage of .575, an on-base percentage of .476, and a .406 batting average.
 
VanDuyn is a two-time All-MIAA pitcher for the Knights, boasting a 6-1 record on the mound this season.  In 54 innings, VanDuyn tallied 43 strikeouts (7.17 Ks/game) and finished with an ERA of 2.17.
