Six MIAA Baseball Programs Recognized for Academic Excellence by ABCA

Six baseball programs from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) received the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2020-21 academic year.

Criteria for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award include:

  • Must be a high school or college team
  • Head coach must be a current ABCA member
  • Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the current academic year (see form for details regarding 2020 academic interruptions). GPA may not be rounded up.

The teams that were recognized from the MIAA include Albion, Alma, Hope, Kalamazoo, Olivet, and Trine.  Both Albion and Kalamazoo earned the MIAA Team GPA award for achieving a 3.30 grade point average or better during the 2020-21 academic year.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Sports Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
