Adrian's Banks Named ABCA Mideast Region Co-Pitcher of the Year; ABCA All-Region Teams Announced
Eight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) baseball players received All-Mideast Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on June 1, including Adrian's Pierce Banks who was selected the Mideast Region Co-Pitcher of the Year.
 
Banks and Adrian catcher Gunner Rainey were both named to the Mideast All-Region First Team.  Representing the MIAA on the Second Team are Hope outfielder Evan Maday, Kalamazoo outfielder Blake Bean, and Hornet utility player Doug Propson.  Adrian shortstop Thomas Miller, Calvin pitcher Trevor VanDuyn, and Kalamazoo pitcher Jack Brockhaus are all on the Third Team.
 
Banks was voted the 2021 MIAA Pitcher of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the regular-season championship, followed by the NCAA Division III Regional Championship.  Going into the NCAA DIII World Series, Banks has pitched a total of 83 strikeouts over 82.1 innings with an ERA of 1.86.  He is a three-time All-MIAA player, was selected to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week on March 16, and was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week three times this season.
 
Rainey was named MIAA Position Player of the Year for his second-straight season in 2021.  The fifth-year senior currently totals 265 put outs, 105 total bases, 45 RBI, 69 hits, 18 doubles, 12 runners caught stealing, a .404 batting average, and a .614 slugging percentage.  Rainey is a three-time All-MIAA honoree, was announced to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week on April 20, and earned MIAA Position Player of the Week twice this year.
 
Maday assisted Hope to a 25-15 record, including a 14-8 mark in league contests.  In conference play alone, Maday finished No. 1 in the MIAA in home runs (6), walks (19), fielding percentage (1.000), and stolen bases (19), and second with a slugging percentage of .771.  His 25 RBI and 54 total bases are third in MIAA competition.  Maday is a three-time All-MIAA recipient and earned MIAA Position Player of the Week on May 3.
 
Bean helped Kalamazoo to an overall record of 25-15 and a 12-12 league finish.  Overall, the Hornet finished first in the conference with a .688 slugging percentage, and second with seven home runs and an on-base percentage of .493.  Bean also totaled 42 runs, 20 walks, and 75 total bases.  He was selected First Team All-MIAA for the first time this season.
 
In Propson's 24 MIAA games played, he concluded the regular-season second with three triples, 54 total bases and two saves, and third with nine stolen bases.  Propson earned First Team All-MIAA honors for the first time in his career.
 
Brockhaus finished the season with a 7-1 record on the mound for the Hornets.  In a total of 55 innings pitched, Brockhaus finished with an ERA of 2.29, two shutouts, 55 strikeouts, and 9.00 strikeouts per game.  Brockhaus is a two-time All-MIAA honoree and was selected MIAA Pitcher of the Week on March 22.
 
Miller is a two-time All-MIAA player for the Bulldogs.  Overall, Miller leads the league this season in runs (49), and is currently the runner-up in hits (54), doubles (16), assists (104), and double plays (18).  Miller is also third in triples (4), total bases (84), and walks (27).
 
VanDuyn helped Calvin to an overall record of 22-16 and a 16-8 mark in MIAA contests, with a record of 6-1 on the mound.  The Knight concluded the season with 54.0 innings pitched, 43 strikeouts, 7.17 strikeouts per game, and an ERA of 2.17.  VanDuyn is a two-time All-MIAA recipient.
