Adrian Baseball Defends MIAA Regular-Season Title, Tournament Bracket Released

Freeland, Mich -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has named the Adrian College baseball program the 2021 regular-season champion.  The Bulldogs have been seeded first in the MIAA Baseball Tournament which begins on May 12.

Regular-Season Champion

The 2021 season began on March 26.  Cancellations caused by COVID-19 required the MIAA to develop a formula that ensures fairness in determining regular-season champions across all sports.

This formula that takes into account the win-loss record of each team and the win-loss record of their opponents (creating a strength of schedule) was adopted.

Adrian concluded the season with an overall record of 27-7 and a 21-2 mark in league play.  This is the seventh-straight year that the Bulldogs have ouright earned the regular-season title, as Adrian and Hope were co-champions in 2013, and the 15th time in program history.  The Bulldogs have claimed the MIAA regular-season title each year since 2009.

MIAA Baseball Tournament

Not all games were completed due to COVID-19 protocols, so the 2021 MIAA Baseball Tournament seeding was determined by the coaches' postseason rankings.

Adrian and Hope will serve as the top two seeds and host games 3-7 in their brackets.  Calvin will compete as the third seed, followed by fourth-seeded Kalamazoo and fifth-seeded Alma.  Albion, Trine, and Olivet round out the tournament seeding in sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.

Competition will take place May 12-14 with two pools: Pool A - seeds #1 Adrian, #4 Kalamazoo, #5 Alma, #8 Olivet; Pool B - seeds #2 Hope, #3 Calvin, #6 Albion, #7 Trine.  The winner of each pool will compete in the MIAA Championship Series.
