Three MIAA Baseball Players Receive CoSIDA Academic All-District® Honors

FREELAND, Mich. -- Three baseball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) earned 2021 Academic All-District® honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Both Adrian College's Thomas Miller and Gunner Rainey received All-District honors, as well as Kalamazoo's Chase Coselman.  All three student-athletes will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.  First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late July.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Senior infielder Thomas Miller boasts a grade point average of 3.78 at Adrian.  The Sport Management major assisted the Bulldogs to, not only the MIAA Championship title, but the NCAA Regional Tournament crown as well to punch a ticket to the NCAA DIII World Series.  Miller concluded the year as the league leader in both runs (54) and assists (113).

Social Studies major Gunner Rainey posted a 3.51 GPA.  The Bulldogs catcher was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Golden Glove Team, while also receiving NCAA All-Tournament honors, All-America accolades (ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com), and D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region honors.  Rainey was voted the MIAA's Position Player of the Year for the second-straight season.  He finished the year as the conference leader in hits (76), doubles (19), RBI (52), and total bases (116).

Senior designated hitter Chase Coselman earned a 3.63 in the classroom for his second-consecutive All-District recognition.  The Business major helped Kalamazoo to a 25-15 record, including a 12-12 mark in conference play.  Coselman concluded the season second on the team in batting average (.400), doubles (10), and walks (16).
