Adrian Falls to Heidelberg in Regionals of NCAA Division III Baseball Championship

The Adrian baseball team went 2-2 in regional play in the 2019 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship last week, falling in the Regional Final to Heidelberg May 19, 9-6. Adrian finished the year with a 37-9 record, tying the program's win record and posting a team-recrod .804 winning percentage.

Heidelberg twice had Adrian's number, defeating the Bulldogs in the opening game May 17, 4-3, before a 9-6 Regional Championship result to eliminate the host Bulldogs. In that game, Adrian twice held a one-run lead, but the visiting Student Princes made a four-run sixth - all on a grand slam home run by Matt Psychas - put the game away.

Adrian rallied from their opening setback to eliminate No. 4 seed La Roche in 10 innings, 6-4, and No. 1 seed Denison, 5-3, May 18. In defeating Denison, Adrian's Brandon Cooper hit a home run - the third in as many outings for the sophomore. The pitching trio of Maxwell Denny, Jesse Marks, and Brandon Schulze combined for 10 strikeouts in the win. Against La Roche, Adrian manufactured two runs in the top of the 10th before holding La Roche in check in the bottom of the inning. Thomas Miller went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Adrian offensively.
