Hope Baseball Drops Doubleheader To New Paltz State

Rightfielder JP Batts recorded a four-hit game, but the Hope College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to New Paltz State on Tuesday in Auburndale, Florida.

The Flying Dutchmen are now 4-4 on the season after the 12-3 and 4-3 nonleague losses.

Batts went 4-for-4 during the nightcap. The junior from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) collected three singles and one double against New Paltz State (8-4-2).

Hope received RBIs from centerfielder Nicholas Holt of Muskegon, Michigan (Muskegon Catholic Central HS) on a second-inning single, leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) on a fifth-inning single and catcher Nick Glowacki of Goodrich, Michigan (Goodrich HS) on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly.

The Flying Dutchmen never led after falling behind 2-0 in the top half of the second.

In the first game, Hope committed six errors that led to seven unearned runs. New Paltz State grabbed a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first with five unearned runs.

The Flying Dutchmen were outhit 14-4.

Hope concludes its spring break trip on Wednesday with a 11:15 a.m. single game against St.Norbert, Wisconsin in Auburndale, Florida.
