Freshman midfielder Ella Spooner (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) led the Hornets in their season-opening 18-9 win against a competitive Muskingum team. Spooner caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls while only turning the ball over once herself in a full 60 minutes of game action. She took every draw of the game for Kalamazoo, winning four draw controls to herself and placing others to teammates to earn the Hornets a 18-13 draw-control advantage. On the offensive end, she also scored six goals and had an assist for seven points in her first college game.
