The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on April 28, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Mo Hanley, Adrian
Sophomore, P
Tampa, Fla.
Hanley aided Adrian in two wins last week, throwing 13.0 innings including a seven-inning complete game win at Trine April 28. In that game, Hanley threw a career-high 11 strikeouts to no walks while scattering three hits. Earlier in the week, Hanley struck out 10 in six innings in Adrian's 5-4 win over Albion April 22. Hanley fired 21 strikeouts to four walks, allowing just eight hits on the week.
Trace Slancik, Hope

Scotts, Mich.
Slancik had at least two hits in seven of Hope's eight games last week, posting a .543 batting average (19-of-35) with four doubles and a home run while adding seven RBI, nine runs scored, and striking out just once. In Hope's 12-9 win at Trine April 23, Slancik went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and three runs scored. For the week behind the plate, Slancik caught four runners stealing and had a .983 fielding percentage.
Nick Ludka, Kalamazoo

Saginaw, Mich.
Ludka finished the three-round MIAA NCAA Qualifying Tournament as the medalist, shooting 73 and 71 last week for even par at Wuskowhan to win medalist honors by two strokes.
Taylor Kehoe, Saint Mary's
Senior
Traverse City, Mich.
Kehoe led the MIAA NCAA Qualifying Tournament field last week with a five-over 77 in the second round of the weather-shortened event at Knollwood Country Club April 26. Kehoe helped Saint Mary's post a 61-stroke win.
Trevor McManus, Albion

Canton, Mich.
McManus set an MIAA game record with 28 saves in Albion's overtime loss to Hope April 23, improving the record by three saves. McManus stopped 28 of 37 shots faced in the game for a 75.7 save percentage. For the week, McManus made 33 saves and owned a 76.7 save percentage.
Max Kuiper, Hope
Junior, Attack
Ada, Mich.
Kuiper fueled Hope offensively to aid the Flying Dutchmen in securing the 2019 MIAA title. In Hope's overtime win against Albion April 23, Kuiper tallied three goals and one assist while gathering a game-high six ground balls and causing two turnovers. In the regular season finale against Kalamazoo April 27, Kuiper scored three goals to go with five assists in Hope's 21-10 win.
Allie Ray, Alma

Ray broke both the MIAA record for saves in an MIAA season (129) and saves in career MIAA games (342) last week. With 21 saves against Hope April 24, Ray surpassed the record of 118 saves in 2018, set by Ray. Ray's 342 saves over three seasons in MIAA competition surpassed the previous best of 330 (Katie Johnson, Kalamazoo, 2015-18).
Kate Kelly, Saint Mary's

Kelly was a key factor in Saint Mary's going 2-0 last week to secure the program's first-ever MIAA title. In the MIAA finale against Albion April 26, Kelly had six goals to go with 11 draw controls, four caused turnovers, and six ground balls in Saint Mary's 14-12 win. Earlier in the week, Kelly posted two goals, three assists, seven ground balls, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers against Adrian April 24.
MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Hannah Kampmann, Trine
Junior, P
St. Paul, Minn.
Kampmann went 3-0 in four appearances last week to help Trine secure the 2019 MIAA title. In Trine's 2-1 win over Calvin April 22, Kampmann threw a three-hit complete game, striking out six in seven innings of work. Kampmann added a complete-game win at Hope April 24, scattering five hits with five strikeouts to one walk. For the week, Kampmann pitched 22.0 innings with 17 strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA.
MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week
Makenna Hartline, Trine
Junior, SS
Niles, Mich.
Hartline aided Trine in a 6-0 week, which included winning the 2019 MIAA regular season title. Hartline went .588 at the plate with a .696 on base percentage and 1.118 slugging percentage. In Trine's doubleheader sweep of Hope April 24, Hartline went 3-for-6 with five runs, four RBI, two home runs and a double. For the week, Hartline tallied 12 runs, six RBI and four stolen bases.
Ian Yi, Kalamazoo

Ann Arbor, Mich.
Yi went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles last week, aiding Kalamazoo in winning the MIAA championship outright with a win over Alma and followed with a 5-4 team win over regionally-ranked UW-Whitewater April 28. Yi and doubles partner Daniel Henry defeated UW-Whitewater's nationally-ranked tandem of Engelhart/Gray, 8-3, and then added a 6-0, 6-1 singles win.
MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Maddy Winarski, Kalamazoo
Sophomore
Rochester, Mich.
Winarski went 5-0 last week, with a 3-0 record at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles. Along with three straight-set wins at No. 2 singles against MIAA opponents, Winarski added an 8-7 No. 3 doubles win against Trine.
Nick Gerber, Trine

Goshen, Ind.
Gerber won the hammer throw at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays, hitting 53.29m to win the event in a field of 39 participants. Gerber was just off a season-best of 53.65m that ranks 31st nationally in the hammer throw. Gerber added a 13th place finish in the shot put (13.72m).
Randy Fry, Adrian
Senior
Redford, Mich.
Fry won the 200m dash, beating a field of 64 competitors at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays that included NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA student-athletes. Fry won in 21.79, which ranks first in the MIAA and 37th in NCAA Division III. Fry also posted a time of 10.68 in the 100m dash, good for fourth at GINA, which ties for 17th in NCAA Division III and is first in the MIAA.
