The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on April 7, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Mo Hanley, Adrian
Sophomore, P
Tampa, Fla.
Hanley made two appearances last week, fueling a pair of Adrian victories against MIAA foes. Against Olivet April 7, Hanley struck out eight in five innings as a starter, earning the win while giving up just one hit in Adrian's 12-1 win. Earlier in the week against Kalamazoo April 2, Hanley pitched 5 1/3 innings, scattering three hits with no runs while striking out five to aid in the Bulldogs' 7-6 comeback victory.
Thomas Miller, Adrian
Sophomore, SS
Saline, Mich.
Miller set an MIAA record against Olivet April 7, going 6-for-6 at the plate in Adrians 22-4 win - Miller's effort, which also included two home runs, one double, seven RBI, and four runs scored, ties the best plate performance in NCAA Division III this season. On the week, Miller hit .565 with a .630 OBP (with four walks) and .870 slugging percentage with 10 runs scored and 10 RBI.
Hannah Finley, Saint Mary's

Finley had a top-15 finish at the Washington-St. Louis Spring Invitational April 6-7, carding rounds of 78 and 77 to finish tied for 12th in a field of 84 golfers that included 12 teams ranked in the top 50. Finley finished in front of 12 players ranked in the top 100 in NCAA Division III.
Nick Schanhals, Hope

Schanhals posted a .643 save percentage in two MIAA wins, including 18 saves in Hope's 16-6 win at Trine April 6; Schanhals added three ground balls in the contest. Schanhals tallied nine saves, including seven in the second half, in a 13-9 road win over Alma April 3.
Max Kuiper, Hope

Ada, Mich.
Kuiper fueled Hope's offense in two MIAA road wins, starting with a two-goal, three-assist game in Hope's 13-9 win at Alma April 3. Later in the week, Kuiper scored five goals and added two assists in a 16-6 victory over Trine April 6, adding four ground balls and one goal while a player down.
Jenina Villabroza, Albion
Junior, Goalie
Glendale, Calif.
Villabroza made 19 saves in Albion's 11-10 win over Calvin April 6, becoming the first MIAA team to defeat the Knights since the 2016 season. It was the second win of the week for Albion; against Adrian April 2, Villabroza stopped 11 of the 14 shots on goal faced in the Britons' 14-3 victory. Villabroza added four ground balls in the two MIAA wins.
Paige Wilmer, Hope
Sophomore, Midfield
Columbus, Ohio
Wilmer tied for the team lead in points in two MIAA wins for Hope last week, including a three-goal, two-assist contest against Adrian April 6 to lead Hope to an 11-7 win. Wilmer caused three turnovers in the win, adding three ground balls. Earlier in the week against Kalamazoo April 2, Wilmer tallied two goals, one assist, and seven draw controls in Hope's 15-7 victory.
MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Hannah Kampmann, Trine
Junior, P
St. Paul, Minn.
Kampmann threw four complete game wins last week, including three MIAA contests, starting with a two-hit shutout against Adrian April 2 with a week-best seven strikeouts. In Trine's 6-1 win over Saint Mary's April 3, Kampmann struck out five. Kampmann added a one-hit, five-inning win over Manchester April 7. For the week, Kampmann struck out 21 to just one walk and posting a 0.81 ERA in 26.0 innings pitched.
MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week
Kayla Groen, Calvin
Junior, OF
Frankfort, Ill.
Groen aided Calvin to a 6-0 week, including a 4-0 record against MIAA foes, by batting .600 with a .900 slugging percentage. Groen tallied four doubles and one triple, while adding five RBI and six runs scored. In Calvin's doubleheader sweep against Hope April 6, Groen went 5-of-7 with a stolen base. Groen had five multi-hit games from the No. 7 batting spot.
Caroline Norton, Kalamazoo

Ann Arbor, Mich.
Norton went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in dobules in two MIAA contests. Against nationally-ranked Hope April 1, Norton came up with Kalamazoo's point with a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles. Norton then added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles in Kalamazoo's 9-0 victory over Alma April 6.
Dazmond Lawrence, Adrian

Lawrence placed second in the high jump at the Tiffleberg Open April 6 as the top NCAA Division III competitor, clearing 2.06m to rank fifth in NCAA Division III. Lawrence also added a ninth-place finish in the long jump (6.17m).
4x100m Relay, Adrian
Donovan Ervin, Marcus Higginbottom, Jordan Davis, Randy Fry
Adrian finished second in the 4x100m Relay at the Tiffleberg Open April 6, crossing the line in 41.16 to rank first in NCAA Division III by 0.02 seconds. Sprinters Donovan Ervin, Marcus Higginbottom, Jordan Davis, and Randy Fry were the top Division III relay team at the meet by almost two seconds.
ShaQuoria Thompson, Albion

Waxahachie, Texas
Thompson won the discus throw at the Marv Frye Invite, hitting 41.28m to move into first in the MIAA, first in the region, and 26th nationally. Thompson also placed third in the shot put (12.44m); that mark in the shot put also hit 43rd in the NCAA.
Evonne Bultemeyer, Trine
Sophomore
Fort Wayne, Ind.
Bultemeyer ran the 3,000m steeeplechase for the first time in her career at the George Glass Invitational April 6, winning the event with a Trine-record time of 10:54.30. Bultemeyer's time also ranks first in the MIAA and fourth in the NCAA.
