The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on March 24, 2019.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition.
Mitch Shedlowsky, Albion
Senior, P
Waterford, Mich.
Shedlowsky went 1-0 in two appearances last week, including a complete game, two-hit shutout against Olivet March 23. Against Olivet, Shedlowsky struck out nine with just one walk in 7.0 innings in the 10-0 win. Earlier in the week, Shedlowsky threw two innings against Bluffton March 19, striking out three with just one hit. For the week, Shedlowsky averaged 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings while giving up three hits in nine innings.
Brandon Cooper, Adrian

Ann Arbor, Mich.
Cooper went 8-for-17 in a 4-1 week for Adrian, including a four-game sweep against Alma March 23-24. Cooper hit safely in all five games, including a 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in game two against Alma March 24. In the first game against Alma on Sunday, Cooper went 2-for-4 with a triple and an inside-the-park home run with five RBI. Cooper also scored in each game, and added two stolen bases; Cooper was error-free in the field on eight opportunities.
Josh Luketic, Albion

Luketic made 17 saves to fuel Albion in their 11-6 win over previously unbeaten Aurora March 23. Luketic finished with a 73.9 save precentage in the win, while adding 13 ground balls.
Justin Gearig, Trine
Junior, Attack
Vicksburg, Mich.
Gearig was involved in eight of Trine's 16 goals in the Thunder's 16-6 win over Wabash March 23. Gearig scored three goals on just four shot attempts, adding five assists for the attack. Gearig also registered three ground balls.
Laurel Frederickson, Hope
Sophomore, GK
Alto, Mich.
Frederickson registered double figure saves three times in a 2-1 week for Hope, including 10 saves on a 71.4 save percentage in Hope's 12-4 win at Allegheny March 20. In Hope's 12-11 win over Frosturg State March 22, Frederickson made four saves on seven free position shots on the way to a 15-save game that included a key stop in overtime. To start the week, Frederickson made 16 saves in a 14-10 setback to Virginia Wesleyan March 18, with seven saves on free position shots.
Annie Rice, Adrian
Senior, Attack
Reistertown, Md.
Rice aided Adrian to a 2-0 week, averaging eight points in each victory. Against Augustana March 24, Rice scored all five goals in the second half while adding three assists; Rice scored the game-tying goal in Adrian's 14-13 win. In a 15-4 win over Hiram March 19, Rice tallied six assists to go with two goals, four ground balls, and two draw controls.
Kate Saupe, Trine

Farwell, Mich.
Saupe had a win and a save in Trine's doubleheader against Ohio Northern March 24. Saupe started the day with two innings of relief to register a save in Trine's 5-3 victory; Saupe struck out two while scattering two hits. In a 6.0 inning effort in the nightcap, Saupe struck out three while allowing six hits in an 11-2 6-inning win for the Thunder.
Shay Pinhey, Hope
Senior, DP
Ann Arbor, Mich.
Pinhey was crucial in Hope's 7-1 week, including the game-winning RBI single to vault the Flying Dutch to a 3-2 win over No. 9 UW-Whitewater March 22. For the week, Pinhey went 12-of-28 at the plate with six extra-base hits, including two triples, while adding 11 runs and 13 RBI. Pinhey, who reached base successfully in all eight games, added four stolen bases. Pinhey shined with a 4-for-4 game with two doubles, a triple, and five RBIs in a 17-4 win over Plattsburgh March 21.
MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Daniel Henry, Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, Mich.
Henry went 2-0 on the week against Oglethorpe March 24, Kalamazoo's first competition in three weeks. Henry started with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles with teammate Ian Yi, and then added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Hallock went 4-0 at No. 1 singles for Hope last week, including a straight-set win over Division I Fordham; Hallock finished with three straight-set victories on the week. Hallock also went 2-2 at No. 1 doubles, aiding Hope to a 3-1 week as a team.
Brendan VanHouten, Calvin

VanHouten was a two-time winner at The Island Meet March 22, winning the hammer (52.57m) and the discus (49.37m) at the four-team event. VanHouten's mark in the discus puts the senior second-best in NCAA Division III at this point of the outdoor season, while VanHouten's hammer ranks ninth nationally.

Ljung was the top Division III finisher in the 800m run at the Emory Invitational March 22-23, placing third overall with a time of 1:53.81. That time is also second-fastest in NCAA Division III thus far this season. Ljung also aided Hope in posting a time of 3:24.33 in the 4x400m relay, which ranks 11th nationally.

Breuker placed second in the shot put in a field of 55 competitors at the Emory Invitational March 22-23. Breuker shot 12.30m, just 0.1m off first place, to rank T14th in NCAA Division III at this point in the outdoor season.

Portage, Mich.
Hemstreet began the outdoor season with a PR time of 39:34.95 in the 10,000m run at the IWU Polar Bear Invite March 23. Along with finishing third overall as the top NCAA Division III competitor in the event, Hemstreet now ranks 13th in the Division in the 10k.
