MIAA Athletes of the Week - March 18, 2019
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the student-athletes selected as Athletes of the Week, for the week of competition ending on March 17, 2019. 
 
The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by coaches following one week of competition, and selected by a panel of MIAA Sports Information Directors, including the MIAA Director of Media Relations.
 
This week's winners are listed below with their respective achievements during last week's competition. 

Pierce Banks, Adrian
Junior, P
Sterling Heights, Mich.

Banks threw 7.0 innings in Adrian's 12-1 win at Berry March 15, spreading five hits while striking out six. The win halted a five-game winning streak by Berry and moved Banks' career record to 17-3.

Cale Hall, Trine
Senior, IF
Orleans, Ind.

Hall went 8-for-10 in Trine's doubleheader against Wittenberg March 16, with three doubles, three RBI, and four runs scored. In Trine's 8-2 win over Wittenberg, Hall went 3-for-4 with one run and one double; in the nightcap, Hall went 5-for-6 with two doubles while adding three runs and three RBI to help the Thunder keep pace before falling, 20-19.

Hunter Kehoe, Saint Mary's
Sophomore
Traverse City, Mich.

Kehoe was the top MIAA performer at Oglethorpe's Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational March 15-17, tying for 34th place in the 119-golfer field. Against a field that featured 14 teams ranked in the top 50 nationally, including seven teams in the top 20, Kehoe shot 77-86-79=242 to pace the Belles in a 11th-place team finish.

MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

Andrew Caris, Hope
Junior, D
Hartland, Mich.

Caris aided Hope to a 3-0 week where the Flying Dutchmen gave up 4.3 goals per game. In Hope's 15-4 win over Wabash March 16, Caris tallied nine ground balls with six caused turnovers. Against Augustana March 15, Caris' four ground balls and three caused turnovers aided in an 18-8 Hope win.
 

Max Foster, Calvin
Senior, Attack
Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Foster aided the Knights to a 2-0 week, leading the Knights in goals (7) and points (13). Against Carroll March 12, Foster racked up five goals and three assists while adding two caused turnovers and a ground ball in Calvin's 19-2 win. In a 13-5 win at Marietta March 16, Foster had two goals, three assists, and one ground ball.

Elizabeth Wiley, Calvin
Junior, Defense
Indianapolis, Ind.

Wiley was a key factor in Calvin's 20-7 win over NAIA's Siena Heights March 13, gathering six ground balls and adding a caused turnover against the nationally-ranked foe. Wiley aided in Calvin's transition, as the Knights had 11 of 17 clear attempts.
 

Carly Schwarz, Albion
Sophomore, Midfield
Clinton Twp., Mich.

Schwarz aided Albion to a 2-0 week, as the Britons averaged 16.0 goals per game during the two road contests. Against Ohio NOrthern March 14, Schwarz won 11 draw controls to fuel Albion, adding two goals and an assist in a 15-14 victory. Three days later at Hanover March 17, Schwarz rattled the cage for seven goals while adding two assists, six draw controls, and two ground balls on the way to a 17-3 win.
 

Gracie Boyle, Olivet
Junior, P
Richland, Mich.

Boyle had six appearances in the circle for Olivet last week, going 5-0 with four complete games and adding a save. In a 1-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran March 12, Boyle went the distance for a two-hit shutout while striking out two. Against Washington and Jefferson March 14, Boyle aided Olivet to a 2-1 win with the complete-game effort. For the week, Boyle had a 0.22 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts.
 

Taylor Shellenberger, Olivet
Junior, IF
Battle Creek, Mich.

Shellenberger went 11-for-16 in six games for Olivet, all wins, during the Comets' trip to Florida last week. In Olivet's 4-1 win over Juniata March 13, Shellenberger went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Shellenberger went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored in a 9-0 win over Mt. St. Vincent March 13. Shellenberger finished the week with .722 on-base percentage and a .813 slugging percentage.

MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Israel Trevino, Albion
Junior
Holt, Mich.

Trevino was a two-time winner in Albion's win over Defiance March 13, starting with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Trevino then was a straight-set winner at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3.

Kyle McDowell, Olivet
Freshman
Kalkaska, Mich.

McDowell ran three middle distance events at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite March 15-16, including a time of 2:01.90 in the 800m run to finish fourth in the Open division. McDowell also crossed the line in the 400m dash in 50.15 to finish second in the heat and 21st overall. McDowell also ran a leg on Olivet's 4x800m relay.

Ariel Floyd, Olivet
Sophomore
Mt. Clemens, Mich.

Floyd set an Olivet record in the hammer throw at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite March 15-16, finishing fourth overall and first among Division III competitors with a throw of 47.71m. That mark also ranks third in the nation. Floyd added a discus mark of 35.59m and shot put mark of 10.35m.
